North American Green SedimentSTOP
& Straw Wattles

SedimentSTOP

The SedimentSTOP Biodegradable Filtration System consists of a 70% straw and 30% coconut fiber matrix reinforced with 100% biodegradable netting that is rolled from edge to edge to create a highly-effective, temporary, three-dimensional, sediment-filtration structure. SedimentSTOP is recognized as a Best Management Practice for reducing soil loss caused by stormwater runoff. It can assist you in complying with many NPDES Phase II rules and other environmental regulations, as well as help earn points toward your LEED® Green Building Rating System project certification goals.

By eliminating the need to return to the jobsite to remove the sediment control structure, SedimentSTOP saves you time, money, and headaches.

SedimentSTOP is water permeable, so it allows water to pass through while trapping soil particles. It offers significantly greater filtration capabilities and sediment retention than wattles, straw bales or silt fence. SedimentSTOP can be incorporated with a variety of planting techniques, such as live planting, live staking, and seed incorporation. The leno-woven net enables jute strands to move independently, and openings to expand as necessary. This flexibility, combined with its 100% biodegradability, minimizes the risk of accidental wildlife entrapment.

SedimentSTOP dramatically reduces surface-sheet erosion, and offers significantly greater filtration capabilities and sediment retention than wattles, straw bales or silt fences.

Straw Wattles

North American Green Straw Wattles are an effective and economical alternative to silt fence and straw bales for sediment control and stormwater runoff. Cylinders of recycled, compressed, 100% agricultural straw, Straw Wattles are wrapped in photodegradable black synthetic netting. Straw Wattles can be placed and staked along the contour of newly constructed or disturbed slopes. Their use to capture and keep sediment on the slopes is a best management practice (BMP).

Fertile topsoil, organic matter, and native seeds are trapped behind Straw Wattles, and provide a stable medium for germination. Straw Wattles also retain moisture from rainfall, aiding the growth of tree seedlings planted to their up-slope side. North American Green Straw Wattles are available in 9-inch diameter, 25-foot lengths and in 12-inch diameter, 10-foot lengths. They are installed by staking in place, and can be used individually or tied together to achieve any desired length.
