Bioengineering Solutions

Bioengineering is a combination of biological, mechanical, and ecological concepts to control erosion and stabilize soil through the use of vegetation along with construction materials. Planted vegetation controls erosion and serves as good wildlife and fisheries habitat in riparian systems. We stock bioengineering solutions that include jute, coir logs, biodegradable blankets, straw wattles and biodegradable filtration systems.

Jute

Jute

Jute is one of the most common products used when an all-natural product is required. Jute fibres are composed primarily of the plant materials cellulose, which is a major component of plant fibre and lignin, a major component of wood fibre. The large openings in the mat do not offer the best erosion control, but they do provide some temporary cover while vegetation is being established. This product is commonly used in combination with polyacrylamides.

Cior Log

Coir Logs, Wattles & Mattings

Coir logs, wattles, and mattings are usually the products chosen when designing a bioengineering solution. Coir is a material harvested from coconuts that is high in abrasion and long-lasting. Coir products are available in many different configurations. These products are an excellent choice when designing a stream restoration project where synthetic materials are not desired for use.

North American Green BioNet Blankets

North American Green Biodegradable Blankets

BioNet 100% biodegradable erosion control blankets from North American Green provide effective and all natural erosion control and vegetation establishment in an environmentally and wildlife friendly manner. All products in the BioNet series are composed of 100% organic, biodegradable materials.

Maccaferri Green Terramesh Systems

Maccaferri Green Terramesh Systems

Maccaferri Green Terramesh System is an environmentally friendly modular system used for soil reinforcement, such as mechanically stabilized earth slopes and embankments. These units are manufactured from the same twisted wire as gabions, but also include erosion control blankets in the face to allow for a natural green look, while still providing the reinforcement needed to stabilize the slope.
